Cooking SafetyFamily cooking and eating together has to be one of the most satisfying and enjoyable ways of spending time with family and friends. But oftentimes, we find ourselves staring at news articles about how someone’s house got burned when cooking because of a stove fire or how someone dies because of an exploding stove. Although stoves may seen relatively safe for most people, stove fire usually happens when there is a gas leak or when your stove has been left on.

Awareness of cooking safety and food handling can mean the difference between a fun and tasty event and an unfortunate outcome. As most people would say, prevention is better than cure. This is the reason why a number of stove and oven manufacturers have come up with various safety devices that would make cooking safer and more secure. Usually, a flame safety device works by controlling the gas supply to your stove. It has a thermocouple which, when heated, continues to stay open. A cooling down of this thermocouple can cause the flame safety device to shut off the gas supply. This way, even if you forget t turn off your stove, you are sure that there is no gas leaking out.

Kitchen safety can make a cooking experience a pleasurable one. Keep fire extinguisher nearby and dispose broken glasses. Wear rubber soled shoes or safety shoes. There is a type of flame safety device which does not wait for the stove to cool down before it shuts off the gas supply. This is especially recommended for stoves positioned near windows where the probability of the flame getting blown off by the wind is especially high. In the case of fire, shut off supply, but if not possible and no risk to surrounding, let it burn out. However, evacuate danger zone.
